Imagination recognised for work for Social Justice and Racial Equity at the Innovation SABRE Awards16 March 2022
Imagination is honoured to be recognised alongside the Detroit Youth Choir and Yessian Music with a Gold Award win for ‘Glory’ in the Best Public Service: Social Justice / Racial Equity / #BlackLivesMatter category. ‘Glory’ also came 3rd for Best in Show.
Alistair Wilson, Managing Director of Imagination Detroit said; “We chose to create the new version of John Legend and Common’s song ‘Glory’ pro bono to give the young people of the Detroit Youth Choir a platform to share their voice in the call for social justice and racial equity following the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. The song inspired millions across America, including President Biden, Vice President Harris, John Legend, Common and David Oyelowo and became an anthem in the fight to create a more just, more equitable world.”
President Biden & Vice President Harris & former President Obama invited Detroit Youth Choir to perform ‘Glory’ at their ‘Get out the Vote’ events, performing alongside Stevie Wonder and was shared across the President and Vice President’s social media channels
Jermaine Dupri included the Detroit Youth Choir on his single ‘Change’ which was performed at President Biden’s inauguration event
‘Glory’ received coverage by USA Today plus multiple other media outlets
Imagination’s relationship with the Detroit Youth Choir began in 2019 when they collaborated together on an event for Ford Motor Company, the launch of the Mustang Mach-E with Idris Elba. Imagination was impressed by the work the choir does for the metro Detroit community supporting predominantly African American youth.
