Throwing the world a party
As one of the first cities in the world to celebrate the New Year, all eyes are on Sydney to set the benchmark for celebrations. Each year, the celebrations must be fresh and exciting for an expectant global audience, whilst entertaining a local Australian one too.
To ensure this, we take inspiration from the city itself, which manages to be an incredibly diverse place whilst still proudly Australian. To truly express the nature of the city, we know that the celebrations have to consistently be locally relevant and globally iconic.
Every year, we choose a simple, resonant theme like ‘Wonder’, ‘City of Colour’ or ‘Welcome’ to inspire a new look and feel for the celebrations. The theme is brought to life each year via dynamic Harbour Bridge pylon projections and effects, through ambient media and event advertising, as well as the Harbour entertainment programme.
In addition, we’ve partnered with iconic creative ambassadors, such as Kylie Minogue, Jack Thompson and Marc Newson, to help deliver on the promise of engaging a global audience whilst heightening the excitement at home in Australia.
