Department Store Masterplan and Restoration

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Reimagining the retail experience across a historic department store

Imagination partnered with Harrods to deliver a multi-year masterplan and renovation across their iconic Knightsbridge location. Our team led the contemporary reimagining of the Ground Floor luxury accessories rooms, developed a cohesive new vision for the 3rd-floor Home department, and redesigned the Harrods Signature boutique to mark a major brand milestone.

CHALLENGE

Harrods needed to review its store design to improve overall circulation and deliver a more logical and simplified customer journey throughout the building. They required a partner to carefully restore their historic Edwardian architecture along the Knightsbridge storefront, create a cohesive residential feel across their vast Home department, and elevate their own-label Signature collections.

THE OUTCOME

Restoring a luxury Icon

We reimagined the Fashion Accessories Luxury Rooms on the Harrods Ground Floor to showcase the best-known and sought-after luxury fashion houses. Starting with the 400-square-metre Room 1 along the Knightsbridge facade, our team restored the splendour of the original Edwardian interior with the considered insertion of contemporary design elements. We used lighting, colour, and rich material textures to frame the modern brand collections, establishing a cohesive design scheme that eventually connects all the historic Brompton Road rooms.

A Signature boutique

Harrods launched new designs for their own-label Signature collection to coincide with their 175th anniversary. We redesigned the department to reflect the store’s luxury style by building clear visual variations between key product categories. The layout separates a high-density, colour-blocked Logo World for self-service gifting from a premium Luxury goods department offering cashmere and leather bags with high service standards. Shoppers can explore a broad selection of dedicated zones spanning Seasonal, Stationery, Homeware, Royal Collection, Pets, Kids, and Toys.

Destination Home: Third floor masterplan

As part of a wider masterplan to simplify the Harrods customer journey, we renovated the 3rd-floor Home department. Starting with the Bed and Bath room, our team designed the space to establish a luxury residential feel from the moment visitors arrive. We used a diverse range of materials to create subtle visual distinctions between the bed linen and bath accessory categories. Product display and visual merchandising are among the main considerations and drivers of the design scheme to introduce natural pauses throughout the room, giving each product group a dedicated space to shine.

For luxury retailers, brick-and-mortar stores offer valuable opportunities to create distinct and memorable in-store experiences along with unique brand interactions for the customer.
