THE OUTCOME
Imagination & Moments Makers collaborated to produce and deliver seven tailored One Year To Go (1TYG) events across all seven Emirates to mark one year out from the launch of Expo 2020 Dubai. The events were synchronised, running for five hours with the key moment at 20:20 at the exact point until the launch of Expo 20th October 2020.
At the heart of the event was entertainment. This was rolled out through a combination of international A-list artists in Dubai, and local talent across music, poetry, art & performance with bespoke entertainment pieces and regional performances. The sites were further embellished with activations, interactives, group performances, shared acts, culinary outlets, water stations, retail points and partner activations.
THE OUTCOME
The Story
A short film that captures the spirit of 1YTG and tells the story of ‘One Year to Go’ through a powerful and moving narrative with specialised CGI animation.
Musical Encounters
Musical collaboration of local grass root talent that embodied the spirit of the campaign captured in a documentary film.
UAE Festivals
7 x interconnected festivals took place simultaneously throughout all 7 emirates, with curated entertainment, activations, food trucks and live broadcast link to Dubai Burj Park.
20:20 Concert
A spectacular broadcast concert performance and celebration from Dubai’s Burj Park to mark the ‘One Year to Go’ moment. The 20:20 countdown moment was projected onto the Burj Khalifa followed by a fireworks display. Live performances by global superstars Hussain Al Jasmi and Mariah Carey were among the highlights of the evening.
The ‘golden hour’ show was broadcast live on DMI channels to millions of people. The main event show and Mariah Carey concert were shown live in the six other Emirates. There were also live links to each Emirate throughout the Golden Hour.
As we celebrate a momentous milestone on the journey to Expo 2020, there is an ever-growing sense of excitement and togetherness throughout the UAE. This will be reflected in the seven One Year to Go events around the Emirates, showcasing the inclusive and collaborative spirit of the UAE. Across the nation, people of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy an evening of unparalleled entertainment and excitement. We’re delighted to welcome two stellar musical acts to the Dubai stage with Mariah Carey and Hussain Al-Jassmi. The seven celebrations will not only wow everyone, they will also serve as a glimpse into why Expo 2020 will be the World’s Greatest Show.

Expo One Year To Go engaged the entire UAE nation and inspired them to prepare for the actual Expo 2020 Dubai mega-event itself – from the general public and businesses to schools and thousands of volunteers.
For the brand
Expo 2020 Dubai may have been delayed by a year, but the foundations of story-telling and entertainment created by the One Year To Go programme became bold themes that inspired the ‘Infinite Nights’ entertainment shows that the Moment Makers team created with exciting acts including Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and Nancy Ajram.
