Experiences that made me Laura Marotta

LondonPeople

November 29, 2024

In this series, we ask Imagination talent all about the experiences that have made them who they are. This month we spoke to Laura Marotta, People & Culture Partner from our London studio.

A bit about me…

First and foremost I love music! At home, gigs, festivals and of course events. I don’t think there’s a type of music that I don’t like but feel free to try me. I am also a real foodie, I love to cook everything and host at my home. Making a home a home for me means giving all my guests and family a good experience and I love ensuring food is suitable for all needs and also tastes great. I am also a lover of cocktails so this is usually a feature at any (dinner) party too! Same for travel, I love exploring and the food exploration is central to any new location for the full experience.

The creative experience that influenced me the most…

David Bowie has had a massive influence on my life…I suppose he has provided me with a unique creative perspective. His work spans so many mediums all having had a big impact on me. From creating many videos, groundbreaking creative performances, and even creating a performance with custom-made theatre design specifically for one unforgettable event. Experiencing that was nothing short of incredible!

My industry hero is…

I don’t have an industry hero but I have worked with some excellent people along the way that have all taught me something different. Whether it’s strictly P&C, how to work well with people in different situations, or providing insight into unique industries, I’ve always learned something new in each role. I feel privileged that in P&C you’re not set to one industry, you can transcend across any, as all companies need a P&C department – the incredible employees are what makes my role needed.

When it comes to events, and back to my love of music, there are a number of things which really made me enjoy the shows. At Boomtown, The Big Chill, Noisily & Shambala I loved there were so many set-ups that immersed you in the storylines and stages – some had secret areas we were pulled into (and a couple of times even dressed up in). So many memories and it’s wonderful to now work for a company which designs these experiences. It’s truly amazing (even if I am only the P&C part).

The piece of work I’m most proud of…

Setting up my own business which people actually wanted to buy from week to week! This satisfied a real passion for me – sustainability and food waste. My husband may have called me an “eco-warrior” for a year…but it was such an enjoyable time for me which allowed me to cook good food for people who care about food waste. We also managed to set up lots of partnerships with market sellers and big supermarket chains and held a number of events in co-working spaces to provide the residents with lunch. Finally, we managed to give back to our local community by providing food to local food banks, community kitchens and charities.

The piece of work that makes me cringe…

Thankfully I’ve not had an epic fail. However, in P&C there are always things which could have gone better and meetings where you feel the message could have landed better. It’s all about people and people have emotions, change their minds, or disagree….for me I try to learn from my different interactions. Having worked in multiple industries with all members of staff (junior to senior), I have a lot to work with, but everyone is always improving.

The experience I wish I had created…

The first time I saw Arcadia…what a sight to experience and a festival headliner I won’t soon forget.

Advice to my 18-year-old self…

Enjoy it….don’t take life too seriously as you will work it out in the end.

What’s next?

The 2025 P&C strategy is being created now and there’s a lot to do. It’s exciting to work for a company with so many lovely and friendly people. Our global team is here to improve everyone’s experience at work so what I look forward to is working closely with the other members of the P&C team and speaking to more of the company to understand what they enjoy and where we can do more so everyone has a great experience at work.

For the things worth sharing, we’ve got a newsletter for that.
