Understanding your starting point is essential before making meaningful commitments to carbon neutrality, net zero, or emission reductions. At Imagination, we’ve embraced this principle as the foundation of our journey to a more sustainable future.
Over the past year, measurement has been our primary focus, culminating in achieving PlanetMark business certification for 2022/23. Not only did we secure this globally recognised certification, but we also immediately recertified for 2023/24. This accomplishment underscores our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, with independently verified data bolstering our confidence in discussing our sustainability credentials.
A year of milestones
Reflecting on the past 12 months, we set out with a clear objective: to understand where we stand, acknowledge the progress already made, and identify areas for continued effort. Thanks to our partnership with PlanetMark, we now have verified data on our carbon footprint over the last five years. This data has enabled us to achieve significant milestones:
- 30% reduction in total emissions
- 46% reduction in office energy consumption
- 73.8% of office electricity use switched to renewable energy sources
Driving change through investment
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond measurement. We’ve made substantial investments to improve energy efficiency at our London headquarters. By replacing all lighting with LED fixtures and upgrading the air conditioning system, we’ve improved our Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating from a G to a B – an impressive leap that reflects our focus on tangible, impactful improvements.
Empowering our team
Sustainability is a collective effort, and every individual in our company plays a vital role. To support this, we’ve introduced company-wide sustainability awareness training. Additionally, our live event teams now benefit from an enhanced training programme developed with the help of isla. These initiatives are equipping our people with the knowledge and tools to contribute meaningfully to our shared sustainability goals.
Looking ahead
As we set our sights on 2025, we remain committed to the path of continuous improvement. Our goals include:
- Achieving the 5% annual emissions reductions required for a third year of PlanetMark certification
- Expanding measurement to additional scope 3 categories
- Exploring renewable energy options in markets where the transition has yet to take place
