Celebrating 41 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art

03 September 2024

In a continued partnership with Telstra, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), and the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) we celebrated 41 years of honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. The 2024 Telstra NATSIAA, Australia’s most prestigious Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art awards, showcased the works of 72 exceptional finalists, reflecting the strength and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. This year’s event, held in Larrakia Country in Darwin, was a remarkable celebration of art, culture, and community.

Catering to an audience of over 2,000 guests our brief was to create an end-to-end awards show that was both engaging and immersive, building on the successes of previous years and offering a unique platform to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

For this year’s event, MAGNT appointed Creative Show Director, Ben Graetz and Music Director, James Magni, to lead the production. The 2024 Telstra NATSIAA, features works that reflect the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, responses to current affairs, and deep connections to the Country. Our comprehensive role included project management, creative oversight, environmental design, technical management, and more, ensuring a seamless experience was delivered.

The exhibition, showcasing these outstanding works, will be held at MAGNT in Larrakia Country from 22 June 2024 to 27 January 2025. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the art in a setting that honours both the land and the people who have nurtured these creative traditions for thousands of years.
