In this series, we ask Imagination talent all about the experiences that have made them who they are. This month we spoke to Eliza Savage, Senior Project Coordinator from our Sydney studio.
A bit about me…
If I’m MIA, it’s likely that I’m at the op-shop searching through racks to find overlooked designer pieces that I will never wear or watching fashion shows on YouTube.
My other special interests are taking blurry travel photos, collecting vintage Vogue and architecture magazines, finding furniture on the side of the road to decorate my house and drinking hot water.
The creative experience that influenced me the most…
In 2023, I had the opportunity to work in Venice as part of a team of curators on an exhibition. This experience was extremely challenging, requiring me to navigate complex governance in a foreign country, collaborate with individuals from across the globe who spoke different languages, and work with artists specialising in a variety of mediums. The exhibition space itself also had a lot of logistical challenges. This experience really showed me that even with significant challenges you can pull off incredible things.
My industry hero is…
Right now, I am looking to my immediate co-workers at Imagination who are absolutely incredible and talented people. I am always astounded by the work they do and have done, even in their jobs prior. I take inspiration from them all and apply this to my work as I grow.
My other long-time creative inspirations are:
- Vivienne Westwood
- Es Devlin
- Issey Miyake
- Isabella Blow
When I feel like I need some colour in my life, I look to them for inspiration.
The piece of work I’m most proud of…
I worked on a private corporate dinner as the first project at Imagination. I felt completely out of my depth as there was a lot to learn and quickly! However, what the team pulled off was incredible and I am really proud to have been a part of it.
The experience I wish I had created…
I went to the Issey Miyake exhibition in Tokyo in 2016 which was honestly a life-changing experience. I am obsessed with the craftsmanship of Issey’s pieces and to observe the exhibition design and how it responded to the clothing was something I will never forget and continue to be inspired by.
Advice to my 18-year-old self…
Just do it, keep moving forward, keep being curious and most of all keep showing up as yourself.
What’s next?
I’m excited to keep learning the industry this year, take on new projects and find new ways to challenge myself.
