Rory Byrne is part of the Creative Industries Working Group for UK5G

We are pleased to announce that Rory Byrne, our Business Development Director, Immersive, is a member of the prestigious Creative Industries Working Group for UK5G. Other group members include: Ed King, Lead Architect, BBC; Matt Stagg, Director of Mobile Strategy, BT; Alexandra Hussenot, CEO & Founder, Immersionn and many more. This group has been set up by the Department of Digital Media and Sport

The high-bandwidth low-latency technologies promised by 5G are likely to radically disrupt the Creative Industries. Across TV, film, music, advertising, theatre, the arts and digital creative industries, the effects will affect the production distribution and consumption models as well as the content that is made.

In addition - as with previous generations of connectivity – the digital content industries will be a key driver of mass consumer take-up of these new technologies.The UK5G Creative Industries Working Group will focus on developing the potential economic and social opportunities afforded by 5G in the UK. This sector is amongst the most demanding requiring huge network capacity. 5G could unlock the potential of these industries by offering high bandwidth low latency streaming of audio-visual and graphic content.

It will seek to understand how the next generation of innovative digital technologies ensures that the UK retains its status at the global forefront of creative content.

As well as working closely with industry partners across the sector, this Working Group will provide policy recommendations into the DCMS 5G Programme.
