Realtime Technical Lead



Imagination requires a proactive Technical Lead to join our Studio team. This is an amazing opportunity to work on cutting edge realime software. You will work with the Senior Management team to ensure technical operational efficiency, implement department technical strategy and stimulate and facilitate growth and to ensure our creative output is to the highest standard enabled by technology.

You will provide technical management, insight as well as drive business change to ensure Imagination adapts to its future needs. You are expected to help guide and mentor the team, plan resourcing needs, future proof and plan for the future of the team, book freelance staff as required, ensure consistency in all projects, and take overall responsibility for the quality and consistency of delivery. 

The eligible candidate will have a broad technical knowledge, passion for realtime development and a solid foundation in fundamental building blocks of code. You will be focused on prototyping, pitches and practical demos as well as immersive realtime projects for live events and virtual production.

  • You will design and build software for immersive Realtime experiences 
  • You will help prototype and build cutting edge activations in AR & VR
  • You will work on prototypes to demonstrate new capabilities to the accounts team and our clients
  • You will working with the development team to create new installations and grow your abilities 
  • You have the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative team
  • You are able to articulate the complex to the least technical person in the room
  • You have managed and led developers to deliver much larger projects than you can deliver on your own
  • You have managed third party technical suppliers
  • Ensure the correct balance of internal and external capabilities
  • Source and develop 3rd party suppliers, developing supplier networks and ensuring best value practices and procurement is carried out
  • Build new and develop long standing relationships, across the Imagination business and externally
  • You hold a holistic view of all software being built within your domain
  • You will be responsible for ensuring software is designed for re-use as well as potential productisation when commercially viable
  • You will run daily stand ups 
  • You will be constantly calculating risks to milestone deliveries and be an authority on what’s required to minimise
  • You will be a strong advocate of creative articulation into functional requirements through epics, user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring this is a joint effort between creative and tech, facilitated by production management
  • You will be creating technical specifications and documenting projects
  • You will act as the escalation point of all realtime technical delivery 

Experience and skills required:

  • You are a proven Unity & / or Unreal Engine 4 developer with examples of shipped software
  • You have agency or games company experience and be used to quality software creation with lean deadlines
  • You have the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative team
  • Significant experience with VR, AR and/or MR development
  • Understanding of source control including GIT and Perforce
  • Working with JIRA or other change management software
  • Have worked with third party technical suppliers
  • You may be required to go onsite to global destinations multiple times a year
  • You have been part of and led a team of realtime developers, artists and project managers
  • You have experience estimating the development time needed on a project and helping allocate resources whether that internal, freelance or third party

Nice to have experience:

  • Experience creating multiplayer experiences or games with some understanding of cooperative game networking 
  • Some C++ programming ability and the desire to learn
  • Software ‘installation’ experience
