About the role

Imagination is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to be responsible for all the functions of HR. Whilst this role requires an individual with administrative know-how, the focus of this role will be to help our muliti-disciplinary team with it’s big growth aspirations. Therefore we are looking for an individual with a hands on, can do attitude, as well as a passion for building a workplace culture that gets the best out of existing staff and attracts top talent to the agency.

The role includes the usual mix of regular administrative tasks (payroll, contracts, labour relations, legal compliance) but we have systems in place (although you will be encouraged to improve these) that will enable time to be spent on the area that will drive business growth which is People & Culture (career growth, well-being, workplace culture, training etc…).

This is a one person department in Shanghai with additional support provided through Global HR, including mentorship from the Australia team and general policy support through the Head Office team in the UK.


Key responsibilities

People and Culture

    • Attract and recruit the best talent, as well as manage the process incl.
      • Triage all applications and drive the recruitment process at pace, ensuring all stakeholders are managed
      • Maintain a database of interested candidates and contract talent, and keep in regular contact with them
      • Manage external recruiters and seek new channels to ensure our recruitment efforts are effective
    • Drive a positive workplace culture, researching and recommending new initiatives for improvement
    • Plan & lead performance reviews
    • Develop & implement relevant local training and globally mandated compliance courses

HR Admin

    • Manage monthly payroll, support with annual pay reviews, lead the relationship with our medical insurance providers,and manage all employee discussions and communications related to these items
    • Track market trends and provide salary benchmark data as required
    • Work with colleagues at head office to provide quarterly and annual statistics
    • Become the main and trusted point of contact for all employees and manager queries
    • Support management with a clear understanding of employment laws and best practice
    • Manage the expatriate work permit and residents visa application process
    • Deal with grievance/complaints, discipline/performance issues, and contract renewals/terminations

Required skills & experience

  • Bachelor's degree or
  • At least 5 to 7 years of working experience in an HR role within a multi-national office environment
  • Proven recruitment experience, ideally within an agency environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, sensitivity in handling confidential matters, and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English & Chinese)

Preferred qualifications

  • A recognised Chinese formal HR qualification
  • Experience across the functions of Human Resource management including employee engagement, staff development, compensation & benefits, and labour relations
  • Excellent people skills, disciplined and empathetic
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as being a good team player
  • Able to conduct yourself with the highest standard of behaviour and respect for colleagues
  • Good understanding of China Labour Laws
  • Good computer skills (especially with spreadsheets)
